The Activities
As part of its Eco Challenge programme the Centre offers a range of activities which provide a challenging adventure within the peaceful Surrey Hills. Students may investigate a local woodland or freshwater habitat and investigate the unique creatures which live there or alternatively get creative by trying their hands at some environmental art using natural or re-usable materials. Students are then encouraged to overcome their fears and raise the self-confidence through a challenging journey.
During an evening walk in the local grounds of the Centre there is the possibility of seeing owls, bats, badgers and other smaller creatures which venture out at night. After exploring and appreciating these special habitats students are given the opportunity to try some practical conservation tasks such as habitat creation and enhancement, outdoor furniture construction or footpath building and maintenance.
The Eco Challenge activities are designed to help students develop an understanding and appreciation of the world around them and also to foster personal and social skills through teamwork and personal challenges. It also provides opportunities to see practical conservation in action and raise awareness of environmental and sustainable issues.
