Malham Tarn - Yorkshire Dales
The Centre is a Georgian-Victorian building standing high up in the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the northern edge of Malham Tarn. It is set in a National Nature Reserve beneath dramatic limestone cliffs in an area of peaceful woodland overlooking the Tarn. The area is of outstanding interest for its geology and landscape and an astonishing variety of plant and animals habitats ranging from woodlands grasslands to complex wetland and open water, some of which is of national and international importance.
The Centre is 7 miles (11km) from Settle town and Station, 8 miles (13km) from Giggleswick railway Station and 3 miles (5km) from Malham village.
The Activities
As part of its Eco Challenge programme the Centre offers a range of activities which provide a challenging adventure though the unique limestone landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales. Students may undertake a challenging journey underground and explore the weird and wonderful features of the local cave system on Ingleborough. Alternatively they may follow a challenging journey over land through the stunning limestone features from Malham Tarn to Malham Cove appreciating why it is so special and needs protecting from human useStudents have the option of discovering what lurks in the trees of the local woodland, from the tall trees right down to the creepy crawlies at their feet..A night or dusk walk around the local grounds offers the possibility of seeing owls, bats, deer and other creatures which venture out at night. After exploring and appreciating these special habitats students are given the opportunity to try some practical conservation tasks such as habitat creation, wildlife enhancement and footpath skills.
The activities are designed to help students develop an understanding and appreciation of the world around them and also to foster personal and social skills through teamwork and personal challenges. It also provides opportunities to see practical conservation in action and raise awareness of environmental and sustainable issues.

They are mainly twin or dormitory rooms, with shared toilets and shower facilities and some en-suite.Disabled access to public rooms, workrooms and some bedrooms.
